August QEM Sessions Include:
Session 1: The New Student Loan Landscape: What Advisors & Borrowers Need to Know, Presented by Ryan Law
Massive changes are reshaping the federal student loan system. With the passage of H.R. 1 (the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act"), borrowing limits are being restructured, and nearly every existing repayment plan, including most income-driven options, is being phased out and replaced with a streamlined set of alternatives. These changes have sweeping implications for borrowers, advisors, and financial wellness professionals alike.
In this 60-minute session, Ryan H. Law breaks down the critical updates, outlines who is affected, and offers a roadmap to help professionals guide clients through the transition. Whether you work with student loans regularly or are new to the topic, this session offers the clarity, language, and tools you need to feel confident in the new landscape.
Session 2: Are you happy now?, Presented by Carolyn McClanahan
Financial planning predominantly focuses on predicting an unpredictable future. We create detailed plans for our client’s financial life, but know these plans are at best a big guess on what actually happens. One sorely neglected item is planning for the present. Is the client happy now? If not, why not? And what can a planner do about it? In this session, Dr. McClanahan discusses how to flip the conversation to planning for the present, what to do if your client isn’t happy, and how planning for the present makes planning for the future a much easier exercise.
Session 3: Implementing Health Care into Wealth Care, Presented by Carolyn McClanahan
Health care planning is a significant unknown for financial planners and their clients. Organizations such as Fidelity and Employee Benefit Research Institute offer averages, and we know there is rarely an average person. Dr. McClanahan helps you refine how to plan for this unknown and how to effectively use health care information in various aspects of the planning process by:
1. Teaching you how to have easy and informative discussions with clients about health issues and how these issues may impact client planning
2. Understanding the client’s health care mindset so they can understand their part in controlling health care costs
3. Showing you how to incorporate the client’s health care status with insurance planning, income planning, and advance directive planning
Session 4: Investing in the Crypto Asset Class, Presented by Zach Pandl
The introduction of crypto ETPs offers investors simplified access to a new asset class. Given this accessibility, the question is no longer whether financial professionals need to understand how to advise on crypto but when they will take the necessary steps to understand crypto to stay ahead of their clients. This session will help answer the most pressing questions from financial professionals about crypto.
Session 5: How to Drive Client Value During Open Enrollment, Presented by Christine Simone
This presentation will equip financial advisors with the critical knowledge needed to guide clients through Open Enrollment for Medicare and ACA marketplace options. Attendees will learn how to evaluate plan costs beyond just premiums, identify common pitfalls in coverage selection, and proactively address healthcare expenses in financial planning.
