FPA Membership Options
You have held a position in financial planning or financial services for five years or more, and have an active CFP® certification.
Aspiring Financial Planner
You do not yet work in financial planning or financial services but aspire to hold a position. This membership type may be held for a maximum of four years.
New to the Profession Financial Planner
You have held a position in financial planning or financial services for four years or less. This membership type may be held for a maximum of four years.
Allied Professional — Practicing Planner
You have held a position in financial planning or financial services for four years or more, are a practicing financial planner and do not hold an active CFP® certification.
Allied Professional — Support
You work in a role critical to the financial planning profession, such as compliance, operations, law/legal services, tax planning, estate planning, marketing or communications.
You teach full-time in a degree or certificate program at the graduate, undergraduate or high school level. You are committed to supporting and nurturing students and the next generation of financial planning professionals.
You are a retired financial planning professional, and work no more than 20 hours per week.
You are a CFP® professional, reside outside of the United States, and are actively involved in the practice and profession of financial planning.
