Attendees to engage in financial literacy effort with local non-profit organization.

DENVER (May 17, 2022) – Community-building and knowledge-sharing will be the name of the game when the next generation of financial planners descend on Las Vegas later this summer for FPA NexGen Gathering 2022. Scheduled to take place August 23-25 at the Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel and Casino, this year’s event will be an opportunity to turn back the clock to before the pandemic when the event forged close, personal connections between attendees.

Hosted by the Financial Planning Association® (FPA®), the leading membership organization for Certified Financial Planner™ professionals — and sponsored by the College for Financial Planning® - A Kaplan Company, Dimensional Fund Advisors, and Ryan Insurance Strategy Consultants — Gathering has provided a unique learning opportunity for students, aspiring financial planners, and newer professionals for more than a decade.

“In-person connections have always been the glue that binds our community together and drives us to adapt to the evolving needs of NexGen. Gathering more than anything else provides the forum to foster those connections,” says 2022 NexGen President Kevin R. Clark, CFP®, CIMA®, EA. “Gathering is one of the few national events specifically created by NexGen planners for NexGen planners. Our leadership team has done a wonderful job developing an event that honors Gathering’s legacy as a think tank for future leaders and catalyst for jumpstarting conversations that move us forward as a community.”

Traditionally held on college campuses before the pandemic, Gathering has been shifted to a resort venue to elevate the experience attendees enjoy. The agenda is currently in development, but each day will focus on a specific theme, including Invest in Yourself (day one), Invest in Your Clients (day two), and Invest in Your Community (day three).

“We’re excited that FPA NexGen Gathering will once again be held in person, which is the only way to truly experience what this event is all about – connections and community,” says Patrick D. Mahoney, FPA chief executive officer. “Our outstanding FPA NexGen leadership team partnered with FPA staff to develop a program we know will be of tremendous value for the event’s attendees.”

With the final day focusing on community, Gathering attendees will participate in an on-site financial literacy program with Jobs for Nevada’s Graduates (J4NG), a local non-profit organization that works to inspire, support, and mentor students to create a powerful and positive future. Gathering attendees will do a Junior Achievement financial literacy activity with 30 to 60 local high school seniors from J4NG. The students will be invited to participate in Gathering’s closing general session, which will introduce financial planning as a career and connect them meaningfully with young professionals.

“Gathering is a safe space to connect with your peers from across the country and discuss early career specific issues and share best practices.  Our goal on the planning committee is to create a program for attendees that promotes personal development, reinvigorates their passion for financial planning and reinforces the importance of our work in the community," says 2022 NexGen Gathering Co-Chair Erica James, CFP®, CPA. "Although, there will be plenty of opportunities to gain technical knowledge, the primary focus is on collaboration and connection, which is equally as important and definitely more fun.”

To support the diverse expansion of the next generation of financial planners, FPA and the CFP Board Center for Financial Planning, are offering scholarships to attend Gathering to aspiring professionals who are seeking to further their professional development and positively impact the profession of financial planning. Those applying for a Richard B. Wagner Memorial Scholarship must be first-time attendees, have a financial need, and represent an underrepresented population in financial planning.

Registration for FPA NexGen Gathering 2022 is now open. Early bird registration is available until May 27, which includes $100 off the regular registration fee. Registration will close July 21.
