The Financial Planning Association (FPA) has sponsored an annual June two-day event in Washington, DC -- “DC Advocacy Day” -- to provide FPA members and leaders an opportunity to meet personally with Members of Congress and Administration officials to advocate in support of the financial planning profession. This year, because of the Covid-19 pandemic and health restrictions that Congress must comply with, face-to-face meetings on Capitol Hill have become impractical and generally are discouraged. This year the traditional FPA DC Advocacy Day is being expanded to include its partners in the Financial Planning Coalition (Coalition), CFP Board and National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA). The Coalition is sponsoring a “Congressional Advocacy Day” scheduled for September 29, 2021.
Virtual Meeting Format: In each meeting, participants will meet virtually via videoconference with a Member of Congress and key Congressional Staff. Since we will not know the exact time for a meeting until shortly before the event, please leave your schedule open for the entire day of September 29.
Pre-Meeting Orientation: On September 27, 2021 at 2 p.m. ET, the Coalition will hold a virtual pre-meeting orientation for approximately one hour to review protocols for the event and talking points for the meetings.
Registration Deadline: July 1, 2021. There is no fee to participate.
Recap of Dates:
- Financial Planning Coalition Congressional Advocacy Day: September 29, 2021
- Orientation meeting: September 27, 2021 at 2 p.m. ET
The Coalition looks forward to “seeing” you in September.
See What FPA Members Had to Say About FPA Advocacy Day!
"Amazing event! What an incredible opportunity to participate directly in the legislative process. I appreciate all of the hard work that went into planning the day's events. And, I am so happy to see this event gain traction and the attendance increase each year. One of my favorite FPA activities EVER!"
Michael Shockley, CFP® Texas
"Very powerful event, in terms of advancing the profession over the long run."
Dr. Ron Rhoades, CFP® Kentucky
"I'm proud of how well received FPA is: we are music to our Members of Congress' ears as opposed to what they are used to. These four years have elevated our reputation and sincere gratitude for those who work so hard to make things happen seamlessly."
Cathy Seeber, CFP® Delaware
"It is a great opportunity to speak with our representatives. Everyone should try to attend at least once."
Ilene Schwartz, Pennsylvania
"I thought the day was very well organized and exceptionally effective in reaching out to and providing education to our members of Congress, as well as building relationships and positioning FPA as a resource."
Molly Balunek, CFP® Ohio
