Lee Baker, CFP®, will assume a key volunteer editorial role with the Journal effective January 1, 2024

DENVER (December 20, 2023) – The Financial Planning Association® (FPA®), the leading membership organization and trade association for CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals, is pleased to announce that Lee Baker, CFP®, will serve as the new volunteer practitioner editor of the award-winning, peer-reviewed Journal of Financial Planning. Baker's new role is effective January 1, 2024.

For nearly 45 years, the Journal of Financial Planning has been published monthly. It focuses on expanding the body of knowledge in the financial planning profession. Launched in 1979, the Journal features thought-provoking articles, interviews, columns, and peer-reviewed technical contributions that benefit financial planners and their work.

As practitioner editor, Baker will serve as a valued member of the Journal of Financial Planning's advisory team by providing critical input on topics and articles most relevant to practicing CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals. When appropriate, Baker will help identify and recruit new contributors and provide a practitioner voice on Journal programs and initiatives, including the annual Trends in Investing research published each June.

"Lee has been an impactful Member of the Association and leader in the financial planning profession for many years. His many contributions have bettered the profession and society," says Patrick D. Mahoney, FPA chief executive officer. "The Journal's rich history has been positively impacted by volunteers like Lee, who have helped our editorial staff ensure the content we publish adds value to practitioners while building the base of professional knowledge. I look forward to seeing Lee's leadership in action over the next two years in this new role."

Baker graduated from Georgia Tech in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. His passion for helping people achieve financial security and his desire to bring a little bit of "Wall Street" to "your street" led him to establish Apex Financial Services. He is a past president of the Financial Planning Association of Georgia and served on the national FPA Board of Directors from 2008–2010. He also served as the president of the Georgia Tech Black Alumni Organization from 2013–2015.

"I'm excited to join the Journal of Financial Planning as the new volunteer practitioner editor," said Lee Baker, CFP®. "The opportunity to help expand the body of knowledge in the financial planning profession is truly an honor."

When Baker is not working with clients, he leads positive social change as the regional volunteer director of AARP Large Region.

"We are thrilled to work with Lee as the Journal of Financial Planning's volunteer practitioner editor. Lee's long experience serving clients with comprehensive financial planning gives him a valuable perspective on planners' experiences. We appreciate his commitment to the profession and the Journal's role in it," adds Danielle Andrus, Journal of Financial Planning editor.

Baker follows Dr. Preston Cherry, CFP®, who has been practitioner editor since December 2021.
