FPA awards Diversity Scholarships to attend the FPA Annual Conference 2023 in Phoenix, Ariz.

DENVER (August 2, 2023) – The Financial Planning Association® (FPA®) announced the recipients of the FPA Diversity Scholarship, recognizing those who are working to encourage diversity in the financial planning profession and the population served. The merit-based scholarship recipients earn one-year FPA membership and complimentary registration and travel expenses to FPA Annual Conference 2023, to be held Sept. 27-29 in Phoenix, Ariz.

"FPA is a thriving community of professionals of all backgrounds, and we take immense pride in the unique and special qualities found in the diversity among our members and those they serve," said Patrick D. Mahoney, FPA chief executive officer. "These remarkable individuals are working to make financial planning more accessible and improve our profession. We look forward to honoring their achievements at FPA Annual Conference 2023 in Phoenix."

The FPA Diversity Scholarship recipients are:

  • Charlotte Fox – Fox, a wealth advisor with Heritage Wealth Advisors in Richmond, Va., is a passionate volunteer in the local community, where she has worked with nearly a dozen organizations that aim to support underserved individuals and families. For ten years, she has volunteered in several capacities with the Junior League of Richmond, where she has volunteered as a mentor and speaker on basic financial planning concepts.
  • Jenneffer Vazquez Moran – Vazquez Moran, a Santa Ana, Calif.-based executive assistant paraplanner with Dynasty Family Office in Columbus, OH, is an aspiring CFP® professional who wants to use financial planning as a means to help women and those in diverse communities live better lives. She has established a relationship with the Mayor of Santa Ana’s office to share the importance of financial education with those in the local community.
  • Tarin Washington, CFP® – Washington, a CFP® professional in North Carolina, believes that creating more awareness of financial planning among the public, and underrepresented communities, in particular, is critical to the profession. She has worked with corporate, non-profit, and military organizations in various capacities to share the financial planning message and to help people discover a sense of financial wellness.

The FPA Diversity Scholarship is awarded to financial services students and professionals who demonstrate and act upon an intense desire to promote diversity in the financial planning profession. Criteria for applicants include:

  • Raising awareness of the profession in diverse communities;
  • Serving diverse communities with financial planning; and
  • Increasing professional opportunities for diverse communities within the financial planning profession.

The FPA Diversity Committee sponsors the Diversity Scholarship Program. The Committee’s vision is that diversity is an integral part of our culture and identity. Inclusion is the way we treat and perceive all individuals and differences. We strive to create an inclusive culture where diversity is seen as a value for the association to elevate the profession that transforms lives through the power of financial planning.
