DENVER (November 14, 2022) — The Financial Planning Association® (FPA®), the leading membership organization and trade association for Certified Financial Planner™ professionals, is proud to announce Shawn J. Jacobson, CFP®, Mark Prendergast, CFP®, and Celeste Revelli, CFP®, as recipients of the Association’s 2022 Heart of Financial Planning Award.

The 2022 Heart of Financial Planning Award recognizes financial planning professionals, firms, and organizations that demonstrate remarkable commitment and passion for contributing or giving back to the financial planning community and/or public. Awardees exemplify the spirit of financial planning and represent FPA’s goal to elevate the profession that transforms lives.

“Shawn, Mark, and Celeste are wonderful examples of professionals who understand that financial planning is a helping profession. Whether providing some advice to a colleague or rolling up their sleeves to help someone realize a sense of security through pro bono financial planning, they have each made the profession better,” says 2022 FPA President Dennis J. Moore, MBA, CFP®. “I join all in FPA and the greater financial planning community in congratulating them on this most deserving honor. I look forward to celebrating them when we are together in Seattle this December for the FPA Annual Conference.”

Shawn J. Jacobson CFP®, ChFC®, MBA, MSFS, AWMA® (FPA of Minnesota): A financial adviser with NorthRock Partners in Minneapolis, Minn., Jacobson is a former chair of the Heart of Financial Planning Committee. He is a prominent FPA of Minnesota leader who has served for over 20 years in the profession and is credited with applying significant focus within the chapter to build, maintain, and develop leaders, all while giving the gift of financial literacy to the community. Amongst his accomplishments, he is recognized for his work with numerous financial literacy workshops, BestPrep, and St. John’s University.

“I’m honored to be recognized for this award. FPA has been an amazing community that I’ve been fortunate to be a part for the last 20 years. I look forward to watching the organization continue to create opportunities for its members to give back to broader communities where we live,” says Jacobson.

Mark Prendergast, MS, CFP®, CPA, CDFA® (FPA of Orange County): The Director of Tax Strategies at Inspired Financial in Huntington Beach, Calif., Prendergast is a former FPA Knowledge Circle host and past member of the FPA Board of Directors. He is credited for his significant contributions to the community, especially locally, through FPA of Orange County, where he has held numerous volunteer leadership positions. His efforts have focused on pro bono, mentorship, education, and community outreach. He is also credited for his legislative advocacy work and leadership of an in-office residency program for new financial planners.

“I was overwhelmed when notified of receiving the Heart of Financial Planning Award. It’s an honor I never sought nor expected, and I am humbled to have my name stand next to the current and previous recipients,” says Prendergast.

Celeste Revelli, CFP® (FPA of the Philadelphia/Tri-State Area): As Director of Digital Planning at Fidelity Investments and based in Philadelphia, Pa., Revelli was a former member of the FPA of the Philadelphia/ Tri-State area board of directors, serving as the Pro Bono Committee Chair. She is credited for her involvement and leadership in numerous programs in conjunction with FPA, the Foundation for Financial Planning, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, and other local community organizations. She is also credited for her work in supporting programs for next-generation financial planners during her time at eMoney Advisor, such as the FPA Externship, and for mentoring aspiring fintech professionals and creating financial planning roles and career paths in fintech.

Jacobson, Prendergast, and Revelli will be recognized at a special Honors Reception at FPA Annual Conference 2022 in Seattle, Dec. 12-14.
