Joe Conklin Shure, CFP®
President
Joe Conklin Shure is President of the Financial Planning Association of New Jersey and the founder of Conklin Shure Financial, an advice-only, flat-fee financial planning firm based in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. His professional work centers on helping people make thoughtful, grounded financial decisions around cash flow, saving, investing, and life transitions, especially when those decisions are shaped by values, uncertainty, and competing priorities.
Joe came into financial planning with a strong interest in transparency, client autonomy, and the human side of money. His firm does not sell financial products or manage client assets, which reflects a broader belief that the most important work of financial planning happens in conversation, decision-making, and follow-through rather than in transactions. That perspective also informs how he approaches leadership and volunteer work within the profession.
Within FPA New Jersey, Joe previously served as Chair of the Pro Bono Committee, leading the chapter’s volunteer efforts through 2025. Under his leadership, the committee expanded partnerships and programming across tax preparation, library-based education, and community outreach, helping connect financial education with people who might not otherwise have access to it. In recognition of this work, the FPA-NJ Pro Bono Committee was named a Heart of Financial Planning Award winner in 2023, and Joe received the FPA-NJ Rookie of the Year Award in 2021.
Joe also serves on the FPA National Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, where he contributes to efforts to make the profession more welcoming and representative of the communities it serves.
As President of FPA New Jersey, Joe’s focus is on strengthening member connection, engagement, and long-term sustainability. He is especially interested in how chapters can move beyond being event calendars and become real professional communities: places where members feel known, supported, and invested in one another. That emphasis on relationships, belonging, and shared purpose reflects his belief that connection, not content alone, is what ultimately keeps members engaged and involved.
