In this podcast we continue our discussion about financial planning designations with Roger Whitney, CFP®, CIMA®, CPWA®, AIF®. Roger is a partner at WWK Wealth Advisors and publishes the Retirement Answer Man Blog and Podcast.

Roger’s pursuit of his designations was born of a desire to be the smartest person in the room when advising clients. Of his CIMA designation he says it was, “very hard, very in depth and very worthwhile.” He encourages young financial planners to only seek out designations that are “the most rigorous, that help you toward your goal.” He points to the CFP® designation as the basis for advising clients holistically.

Roger sees financial planning as a craft. Listen to him explain this theory, and why “if you want to be an artist, you have to paint within the lines.” And learn why Roger believes that “it’s more about personal growth than designations.”
