On Thursday, March 5, 2026, members of the Financial Planning Association of California (FPA of CA) gathered at the Capitol in Sacramento for the organization’s annual State Advocacy Day. Financial planning professionals from across the state came together to engage directly with legislators and their staff on issues affecting the financial planning profession and the financial well-being of consumers.
Throughout the day, members met with their elected officials and staff to introduce the Financial Planning Association as the professional membership organization for Certified Financial Planners (CFPs)—representing approximately 3,000 members in California and 25,000 members nationwide. These conversations focused on building relationships with policymakers and positioning FPA as a trusted resource for both legislators and the communities they serve.
Members highlighted the important work financial planners are doing in their communities, including supporting financial literacy initiatives and providing pro bono financial planning services. They also offered FPA’s expertise as a resource on legislation impacting the financial services industry, particularly in areas related to consumer protection and high professional standards in financial planning.
These meetings help strengthen communication between policymakers and financial planning professionals while reinforcing the vital role CFP professionals play in supporting the financial well-being of individuals and families across California.
Thank you to the dedicated member volunteers who took the time to travel to Sacramento and represent our profession. Your advocacy helps elevate the voice of financial planners and ensures policymakers understand the value we bring to our communities.
Advocacy doesn’t stop at the Capitol. We encourage all members to stay engaged by supporting advocacy efforts in your local chapter and community—whether by participating in meetings with elected officials, volunteering for pro bono initiatives, or helping promote financial literacy in your area. Together, we can continue to strengthen the profession and make a meaningful impact for the people we serve.
