Hello FPA California Member!

Once a year, FPA members from our local chapters across California gather together at the Sacramento Capitol to advocate on behalf of our profession. This is our opportunity to build awareness, foster relationships with key regulators and legislators, and take part in shaping the future of our profession in California.

If you have not had a chance to join us in years past, we hope March 5th may be your time to experience what Advocacy at FPA is all about. If you’ve joined us in prior years, thank you, and we hope to see you again!

For those new to Advocacy Day, we meet with your elected State Assemblymembers and State Senators throughout the day on Thursday, March 5, to highlight proposed bills in California that may impact our profession, business, and clients. We also advocate for and emphasize the importance of financial literacy and financial wellness for all residents of our state. Your FPA of CA State Council reimburses you for one hotel night stay and a portion of your travel expenses, up to $300, for the first 30 individuals who register to attend.

At FPA, our four focus areas of Advocacy are:

1)   Financial literacy and Wellness and our community impact

2)   Legal recognition of financial planners through title protection

3)   Taxation of financial planning services

4)   Financial planning fee structures

Advocacy Day is our opportunity to live FPA’s mission, to elevate the profession that transforms lives through the power of financial planning. We also conduct pro bono financial planning sessions with legislative staffers throughout the following week to showcase the power of financial planning. I hope you will consider joining us.

Why is your participation important? Without you (a constituent who lives in the district), we cannot meet with your Senator or Assemblymember. These conversations will help determine the future of our profession, and these meetings help us build strong relationships with elected officials and their staff. Please mark your calendar to participate in an engaging and exciting day supporting our profession.
