Join FPA’s Retirement Income Planning Advisory Council

FPA is launching a Retirement Income Planning Advisory Council to inform future integrations between financial planning and retirement income resources and strategies. We have partnered with a major insurance carrier that seeks to learn directly from FPA’s CFP® professionals to uncover ways to better support you and your clients. Raise your hand, share your voice and make an impact on the future of the profession.

    Advisory Council Goals

    • Foster a safe space for honest sharing among peers
    • Lead with a CFP-centric financial planning process, exploring ways to complement the CFP process with tools, technology and resources that better serve the modern financial planner
    • Explore challenges in the retirement income planning space today via research, discussions, surveys and case studies
    • Embrace and expand strategies to meet the “third wave in financial planning,” a holistic, goal-based approached to financial planning and wellness

    Advisory Council Responsibilities

This is a two-year commitment; each volunteer will be asked to dedicate approximately two (2) hours of their time each month.  Participants may be asked to:

    • Contribute in a private FPA Connect community on a monthly basis
    • Discuss relevant topics impacting the development and delivery of holistic financial plans and the ability to best serve clients in independent and collaborative discussions on Zoom
    • Complete brief surveys or polls
    • Review case studies and resources and test new tools
    • Attend an in-person group conversation at FPA Annual Conference 2021 (Registration fees, two (2) hotel nights and a travel stipend covered by FPA)
    • Maintain their CFP® certification

    Advisory Council Benefits

    • One (1) complimentary FPA membership (through 2022)
    • Registration fees, two (2) hotel nights and a travel stipend for FPA Annual Conference 2021
    • CFP® CE credits (for select discussions)
    • A seat at the table to truly shape and elevate the future of the financial planning profession
    • Complete privacy around participation (all parties will sign an NDA, and the FPA Connect community for this group will be unlisted)

    Submissions and Questions

The first step to joining the Council is telling us you’re interested and providing some additional information via the survey.  This is a vitally important community that will shape the future of financial planning.  At this time, the opportunity is open to CFP® Professionals who are FPA members.  FPA will review all volunteers’ information and populate the panel with the intent of capturing a diverse set of opinions.  Completed surveys will be reviewed within two (2) weeks of completion.  We seek to build a diverse, engaged Advisory Council comprised of multiple backgrounds and levels of experience.   If you have any questions, please contact us at
