Attire is business casual. More importantly, remember to bring comfortable shoes and extra layers as temperatures in meeting rooms can vary.

When and where is FPA Annual Conference?

Annual Conference will be held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio from September 22-24, 2021.

HOTEL INFORMATION

How can I book a hotel?

FPA has partnered with two hotels in Columbus to offer discounted nightly rates at each hotel. To book accommodations, please find additional information on the hotel page for Annual. The two official hotels for Annual Conference are the Hyatt Regency Columbus and the Hilton Columbus Downtown.

What is the hotel refund policy?

Any reservations made through the two contracted hotels for the FPA Annual Conference can be canceled up to 72 hours prior to the arrival date without a cancellation fee or penalty.

When is the deadline to book hotel reservations?

Room reservations may be booked at the contracted rate until August 27, 2021 or until sold out. After this date, rates and availability are not guaranteed.

How can I register for Annual Conference?

What is included in my registration fee?

Conference registration includes access to all education breakout sessions, general sessions, and meal functions (breakfast, lunch, and coffee breaks as indicated on the schedule).

When is the registration deadline?

The deadline to register for Annual Conference is September 3, 2021. After this date, hotel rates and availability are not guaranteed. 

Do I need to register for sessions ahead of time?

No, all content and sessions are included in your registration and do not need to be selected ahead of time.

What is the cancellation policy?

We've revised our standard cancellation policy due to COVID: if you need/want to cancel due to COVID, we understand. A full refund will be granted, without question. Cancellation and refund requests must be made in writing to info@onefpa.org by September 6 and a refund of all fees will be given. A transfer to your full registration fees to another individual is permitted prior to the conference start date and must be submitted in writing to info@onefpa.org. After September 6, please contact us immediately if you are sick or have concerns attending.

In the event there are travel restrictions in the country where the participant is traveling from that prohibits them from attending in-person, FPA will work with you to put the value of registration towards another event or product of equal value or refund your fee in full.

Will I get a refund if the FPA Annual Conference is canceled?

FPA is committed to hosting the Annual Conference in September in Columbus, Ohio. If for any reason beyond our control Annual Conference is not permitted to take place, attendee registration will be refunded in full.

What is the event cancellation policy?

FPA reserves the right to cancel any event due to low enrollment or other circumstances which would make the event non-viable. If FPA cancels the event, participants will be offered a full refund. Should circumstances arise that result in the postponement of the event, FPA has the right to issue a full refund or transfer the registration to the same event at the new, future date. FPA will not be responsible for any participant’s expenses related to the cancellation or postponement of the event.

Will Annual Conference be a hybrid event?

FPA has made the decision to proceed with an in-person event and is committed to recording sessions onsite and releasing to members post-event for a fee for those who are unable to, or uncomfortable with attending in-person.

When will the conference schedule be released?

The event schedule is live and being updated daily as details are finalized. 

 I don't see Academic Research Presentations on the schedule, are these happening at Annual?

The joint FPA/AFS Academic Research Presentation track will not take place this year and we will not be releasing a Call for Papers. 

I am a student/Aspiring Financial Planner member of FPA, am I eligible for a registration discount?

Yes, Aspiring Financial Planner category members are eligible to attend at a reduced rate of $249. To be eligible, you must be a current member in this category. There is no discount code; the registration system will automatically apply the rate. The rate is valid until the registration deadline of September 3. 

I am an Academic member of FPA, am I eligible for a registration discount?

Yes, Academic category members are eligible to attend the conference at a reduced rate of $399. To be eligible, you must be a current member in this category. There is no discount code; the registration system will automatically apply the rate. The rate is valid until the registration deadline of September 3. 

CONTINUING EDUCATION INFORMATION

How many sessions will qualify for continuing education (CE) credits?

Historically, Annual Conference has been able to offer participants a minimum of 12 hours of CFP® CE credit.

How do I earn CE credit for the sessions I attend at Annual Conference?

FPA applies for acceptance from the CFP Board and reports continuing education to the CFP Board on behalf of all conference attendees. CFP Board has final authority on acceptance of eligible sessions.

During the session, you will be given a code to enter in the FPA Annual Conference mobile app and will be directed to fill out a short evaluation to indicate your attendance at the qualifying session.

Who do you submit CE to on my behalf and how long does it take?

FPA will automatically report credit to CFP Board within three weeks of the conference. Please be certain FPA has your CFP Board ID by logging into your FPA account and checking your profile. If you hold additional designations, you will need to self-report credit to the appropriate association or board.  

Does CE qualify for other designations other than the CFP® designation?

If you hold other designations, you will need to self-report credit to the other associations or boards, including the Society of Financial Service Professionals (SFSP), Professional Achievement in Continuing Education (PACE), Investments and Wealth Institute (CIMA) and American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). Each agency, board or organization has the final authority on acceptance of credit.

COVID-19 INFORMATION

What is the status of Annual Conference? 

We continue to monitor the situation in Ohio and are following CDC recommendations and guidelines in partnership with Columbus Public Health, Franklin County and the Greater Columbus Convention Center. We continue to plan the event as scheduled in Columbus. If this changes, FPA will notify all attendees immediately. 

Is there going to be a capacity limit on the number of attendees?

We are not currently enforcing a capacity limit.

Will I be required to wear a mask?

FPA encourages all participants to follow state and federal guidelines with respect to COVID. The CDC has advised that everyone should wear a mask indoors or in crowded areas regardless of vaccination status.  Currently, Ohio and Franklin County do not have a mask mandate in place and strongly encourage those in crowded areas to wear a mask.

Do I need to have my temperature checked upon entry?

Temperature scanning detectors are installed at the entrances of the Convention Center. If you are running a fever and your body temperature is outside of the acceptable range, you will be stopped upon entry. If you feel sick you are asked not to travel to the event and FPA will work with you to refund your registration. If you become sick on-site, you are requested to remain in your hotel room and contact show management at conferences@onefpa.org. FPA will work in concert with the hotels and the convention center to direct the participant toward appropriate medical care. 

What is FPA doing to encourage the safety of attendees?

  • Designated entrance and exit areas to the exhibit hall and breakout rooms to spread out gatherings of people more evenly throughout the Convention Center;
  • Provide different seating opportunities for participants that are moderately distanced; 
  • Install hand sanitizer stations throughout the Convention Center;
  • Provide personal protection equipment (PPE) to every individual attending the conference. PPE kits include hand sanitizer, masks, color-coded bracelets which indicate your level of comfort with contact and allows you to self-select your level for each day. Red indicates no contact, yellow indicates an elbow bump is ok, green means go in for the hug, high-five or handshake;
  • Working in collaboration with the Greater Columbus Convention Center, which achieved Global Biorisk Advisory Council® (GBAC) STAR accreditation;
